Today marks our first month as a waiting family. We have absolutely no idea how long we'll wait, but we think about our next little man all the time. Realistically, with the rate our agency is giving referrals and the general slowdown in Ethiopia, this time next year, we will probably still be just...waiting. But, he'll be worth it...one less orphan without a mommy to snuggle with or a daddy to play baseball with or sweet siblings to share everything with. Max will have a family...our family.
It's interesting to me that today falls on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I haven't really addressed it on the blog, but we are fully aware that our family won't be a "white" family anymore, but a trans-racial family. Of course, we have no real way of knowing what that will mean for us and for Max throughout the years, but that's just something else we have to rely on the Lord for in this journey.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
We are ALL created in His image...in fact, the earliest known human remains on this planet were found in Ethiopia. One of the best parts of this adoption for me, so far, is really, intentionally trying (such a work in progress!!) to let go of prejudices and quick judgements and try to see others the way God sees us all...precious in His sight!
I love this Brandon Heath song...
Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see
That's my prayer today....give me Your love for humanity. And, of course, we're praying for patience in the wait...not to obsess over waitlist numbers, referrals, etc., but to enjoy our lives right NOW and not constantly think of what's to come. One month down.....

Beautiful!!
I will keep your family in my prayers!
We love you guys and your correct perspective on us all being created in His image. We talk to our children all the time about prejudices and the fact that he chose to create each one of us, so that makes everyone special no matter their culture, skin color, etc. etc! We are so happy to follow your journey to fulfilling the command in James 1:27!
