My husband is so crafty!

I have to brag on Wes today...this weekend, he turned nothing into something, and we've added two cool pieces of furniture to our home!

The whole thing started Friday with a discarded shutter that a friend picked up at a garage sale and then gave us. Next thing I knew, we had a table!
Wes built it using the shutter as the table top. He painted it, and I helped antique it...so fun! We got glass cut for the top and now we have a cute, rustic table in our entryway, which has pretty much been ignored for the last six months while I figured out what to put there.
I'm still working on finding the right accessories for the table, but a black and white photo collage and some Mississippi pottery makes me happy for now. Here's a close-up....
Since our first project turned out so well, we started eyeing this thing, which a sweet friend donated for our huge garage sale...a few weeks late. It's taken up space in our garage ever since. This photo was taken after the lovely brass hardware and the beveled glass in the top cabinets were removed. Before....
After! :) It looks totally different, and I love it! Wes removed the top doors and added a back, which totally changes the look. I sanded, Wes painted, and then I antiqued it. I still need to pick out knobs for the bottom cabinets and fill it a little more, but it adds so much to our dining room.
We primed it in red and painted it black to match the legs of our handmade farm table. Here's close-up shot...
After we moved in June, we knew we needed these pieces, but with most of our money going to the adoption, it just wasn't in the budget. Now I'm so glad we waited because I love the table and cabinet, and I loved making them with my husband for next to nothing! A very fun and productive weekend for sure, especially since we didn't set out to spend our Saturday antiquing furniture so I didn't stress over it. I figured we had nothing to lose if they didn't turn out right, but only cuteness to gain! We also got to hang out with fun friends both Friday and Saturday nights, which made me even more happy!

Totally off the subject, but as I was snapping these pics this morning, I had to get one of Murphy in his cute outfit (although he wouldn't pose at all)! Santa ordered it from Cassady Street to support an adopting family, and I think Murf loves it more than I do! He constantly points at the dump trucks and bulldozers on his pants and says "brmmm, brummm, brummm," which is his word for truck/construction vehicle. So cute! Mary Reeves is amazed the elves knew his initials to sew this shirt for him! ha!
I'm already looking forward to our three-day weekend, in part because Monday marks one month on the waiting list! Praying, praying for referrals this week!!!!

I love them! So proud!

My next project is a table using an old window sash for the top and old washing machine legs. The window came from my house, and the washing machine legs came from my great-grandmother's first washing machine. Country, I know. But wish me luck!

Awesome table! I can't wait to hear about everyone's new numbers for January--I pray there is lots of movement.
